Hazel & Harley
This past year, while taking some time off from design while expecting the arrival of our 1st child, a very good friend of mine came to me about helping design her new hair salon. i was reluctant about how much i could do during this time but it worked out perfectly for them as they were going to be doing a lot of the work themselves and just needed me to space plan and have hard copy drawings for the city and their contractors, some help with color choices and to give some over all design advice about lighting and furniture within the salon. kera (owner & stylist) and i started off the whole process of the layout in the empty space taping the floor off with ideas of how big her stylist's stations should be in order to understand the flow of the space. after accomplishing the size and aesthetics of the stylist's stations we quickly moved to picking some paint colors for the space. choosing wall colors for a salon can be tricky since the stylist's are also working with hair color everyday and the wall colors can reflect color onto the hair making it difficult for the stylist. i went with an overall warmer white and a rich lemon grass accent wall in the front of the salon that would tie in with the stylist's stations that would be made out of plywood. after these couple of tasks i really just consulted for kera on her choices of furniture, equipment and lighting for the salon. together we made a great team and the salon turned out so beautifully!
